DEFINITION

The difference between Makeup Artist and an SFX Makeup Artist has to bring to life the three dimensional vision of the director and the production team. Face Off and The Walking Dead are good examples to see how the artists uses the person as their canvas to bring the creation that they have in their to life.  

SFX makeup deals with materials that mold and create different look such as latex, silicone, spirit gum, molding clay, gysum cement, and alginate. These are specific materials that are used mainly for artist in the special effects makeup field.

  • What make this specifically for SFX makeup is that these products help change the actor or performer into an art piece. An example is an actor from walking dead who has latex and other SFX materials applied to their face to transform them into zombies.  

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

MATERIALS

Life Casting

  • First step in SFX makeup. This is when they make the mold of the body part that is getting SFX makeup applied to.

 

TECHNIQUE

Most Special Effects Artists must have an understanding of human anatomy, and they must know about scuplting techniques, and painting color theory.  If the artist is trained in any of the art fields it is benefial towards their work.
